Angela (West) Alfieri, MA LMHC MHP CMHS

Northwest Clinical Supervision & Consultation PLLC

Angela is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who received her Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School in 2006.  She has worked within mental health agencies in King County for the past 16 years in a variety of roles such as Therapist, Supervisor, and Director.  Angela’s career focus is youth, adults, and families.

Angela approaches therapy from a Psychodynamic perspective, meaning that change takes place when we are in relationship with another and that the relationship between therapist and client can be translated to change in other relationships.  She sees her primary work as a therapist is to create a non-judgmental, open space that allows for questioning, truth, and heartache to be present.  Angela specializes in working with teens, families and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, and other life transitions.

Angela also enjoys providing clinical supervision to associate therapists and social workers who are working towards licensure within Washington state, helping new therapists to find their voice in this work.

Prior to working in private practice, Angela worked at Consejo Counseling and Referral Services, the YMCA’s Children’s Crisis Outreach Response System, Renton Area Youth and Family Services (RAYS), and Childhaven.  Angela provides trainings around crisis support services, working with law enforcement and engaging hard-to-engage clients.

Values & Philosophy

I truly believe that the extent to which we feel and experience deep pain has a counter-extent to which we can feel great joy in our lives! I see my work as a therapist is creating a space that allows you to feel those hard feelings, but seek to find areas of joy in your life. Therapy asks us to be honest about the spaces that we have come from and to dream, believe, and desire new spaces to travel. I view my job as a therapist is to help build the space for the journey to move forward.

Therapeutic Techniques

I work from a framework of Psychodynamics, meaning that I believe the relational issues that are impacting our lives are also present in our therapy sessions and through our relationship we can find ways to improve our other relationships. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), finding that components of these works can help activate change within our lives. I believe that, for many, CBT and DBT can be helpful to initiate change, and I thusly also draw from Family Systems. Many of us find ourselves falling into old patterns/behaviors that come from our families of origin. Much of the work we need to do to be successful in our personal growth is learning how to challenge and reform the patterns that are impacting us. I work with teens and their families, as well as adults. To get a good sense if I might be a fit for you and your situation, please reach out and we can schedule a 15 minute phone call.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION & CONSULTATION

I have over 11 years experience providing supervision and consultation to interns, counselors, and social workers who are pursuing licensure. I find this to be a very fulfilling experience as I enjoy helping therapists find their own voice and perspective in this work. As a supervisor, I believe that my job is to guide and support new therapists while ensuring that laws and ethics are followed. I offer a unique perspective by having worked within a variety of community mental health agencies.

fees and insurance

My counseling sessions are 53 minutes long. Longer sessions are available as clinically appropriate or as needed for crises. My standard session fee is $150. The initial session with a new client has a higher intake fee of $195.

Fees are due at the time of service. I accept cash, personal check, credit cards, or direct EFT. I have the ability to adjust fees when needed to ensure services are accessible regardless of ability to pay. Please ask me for more information!

I am in-network with Premera, Lifewise, most Blue Cross/Blue Shield networks, and Kaiser Permanente (PPO and HMO). I am considered out-of-network with other insurance companies. Check your out of network benefit to find out how they would reimburse you.

If you would like to use insurance to help pay for counseling, I recommend you contact customer service for your specific insurance program to confirm your coverage. You can give them my information (NPI #1447642418) to see what the coverage would be for my services, specifically. Please note that insurance will only cover services when provided with a mental health diagnosis. Intake documentation and conversation during our initial session will determine what diagnosis will be provided.
